History has been redefined as the first time in Oscar’s ninety-one year history a foreign language film has won the Best Picture Oscar along with many precious other’s. The entire globe watched Parasite as soon as it bagged big. I, on the other hand, was one of the curious ones who saw the movie right after it’s release. I tend to watch good movies regardless of the language barrier. I loved that Parasite has paved the way for international movies to have a wider range of audience.
The humility of Boong Joon-Ho has created a positive impact at the Oscar’s. Parasite is so good that I have watched it twice. Once alone and the second time with my family. Why it is important that we take this win of an Asian movie as positive? It creates a dialogue for all the movie viewers around the world that many non-English movies have what it takes to win the Oscars.
Now, people all over the world are watching foreign films which were nominated for Oscars over the years. My most favourite foreign language movie is The Lives of Others from Germany; it was one of the most powerful films I have ever seen.
If you are interested in watching non-English movies, you should explore Indian movies, South Korean movies, French films, and do have a look at Best Foreign Language movie nomination over the years. Parasite’s Oscar win is the most pivotal moment in cinema. Dreams do come true, just be committed to have that vision and work hard with honesty, and the world will watch your work.
