Indians are obsessed with weddings, and nobody will even try to deny that. Movie weddings have been a part of Hindi film industry since its inception and finding love amid chaos is the heart and soul of such films. As the taste of the audience changes, the trend and treatment of wedding movies adapt accordingly.
These days, the trend is to make wedding films lies in the formula a unique story+ relatable and pragmatic drama+ taboo humour. Motichoor Chaknachoor is a story about Pushpendra and Annie. Pushpendra (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Annie (Athiya Shetty) are struggling to get married for different reasons, Pushpendra is getting old and desperate, Annie wants to marry a guy who can take her to an exotic honeymoon, and it will be much better if she could settle abroad. Pushpendra is known as an NRI who returned from Dubai, and Annie agrees to marry him despite his age to visit Dubai. Thus, a mismatched marriage begins.
The trailer is hilarious with a blend of cuteness and Indian cynicism. The last time I saw such funny scenes were in Badhai Ho, which was one of the biggest hits of the year. It is good to see this new trend of films that can attract a wide range of audience. From the looks of it, Athiya Shetty may get her first successful movie. Nawaz sir has been in his typical brilliant form, being a desperate ageing guy who has love in his heart but doesn’t know how to express it. I think the movie will make its place in the heart of the audience.
