They said it right, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention.’ When the going gets tough; the tough get going. The biggest issue in India’s defence against the COVID-19 virus was the lack of ventilators in the entire country. Severe cases of coronavirus epidemic need ventilators to survive, and we had only 40,000 working ventilators. I was worried for every patient who needed machines to escape certain death.
Anand Mahindra is loved by those who know him. The business tycoon is known for his work ethic, kindness, and ingenuity. He announced on his Twitter handle that Mahindra & Mahindra has developed a working prototype of a makeshift ventilator, which will cost only ₹ 7,500/- compared to ₹10,00,000/-, which is the price of sophisticated ventilators. A team of four engineers created the ventilator with the help of the Ambu bag AKA bag valve mask.
The Ambu bag is used to save the lives of patients in emergency cases. The devices are usually operated manually to pump oxygen into the lungs in case of respiratory failure (The primary cause of death in coronavirus patients). Anand Mahindra announced on his Twitter handle. He shared a video of the working ventilator, which will save countless lives in an emergency.
Anand Mahindra also announced that they are also working on making sophisticated ventilators at a lower cost, and half of the price will be paid by Mahindra & Mahindra. I think it is a beautiful gesture and a great invention in the darkest hour of need. Together we will defeat this pandemic. Some by staying home, some by working tirelessly in hospitals, some by providing what is needed.
