Natalia “Natasha” Alianovna Romanova, popularly known as Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow, has had a long overdue of owning a movie with a lead role. Almost a year from now, the MCU film is slated for a release in May 2020 and shall be a prequel and set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War in the MCU timeline.
Black Widow shall open a new portal for the inclusion of newer characters in the MCU. With Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz geared to enter the Marvel franchise through the Scarlett Johansson starrer, character assignments for the first two have been leaked. Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova, a fellow trainee at Red Room Training Program and sister figure to the lead Hero. David Harbour portrays the Red Guardian, Captain America’s Russian counterpart and shall be one of the other antagonists against Black Widow.
Talking about nemeses, most of the interest is stirred around Rachel Weisz’s character, held tightly under wraps. Well, we believe her character to be the best fit to portray the much-talked-about Taskmaster. Exclusive SDCC footage gave us a peek into the Taskmaster, who shall not only retain his costume from the comics but also his skill sets. Known to have a psychoactive ability to replicate any fighting style and his opponent’s moves, Taskmaster is a hard nut to crack. And how Black Widow tries to hammer him would be interesting to watch, however, fans are far more eager to know as to who would be behind the Taskmaster costume.
Well, we have our own theory that directly pinpoints Rachel Weisz and associates her with Taskmaster one way or the other. In the opening footage at the SDCC, Black Widow is seen duelling fiercely with Taskmaster, as the latter mirrors all her moves with finesse. This leads us to believe into a few possibilities- They’ve either battled before or Taskmaster fought other Red Room trainees in the past. There’s also a very interesting twist here that most Marvel fans may not notice- The person donning the Taskmaster suit is someone from the Red Room.
Rachel Weisz, although quite tightlipped, did give us some sneak-peek into her character Melina. In a confrontation with EW at the recently held Comic-Con, Weisz revealed Melina to have had cycled five intakes at the Red Room. Now the proof that Melina has repeated failures at the training program (atleast four), she could be filled with resentment for the entire Red Room breed and seeks to annihilate all those associated.
