How #MeToo Failed To Affect Bollywood?

It’s been over a year since the waves of the #MeToo movement hit the shores of our country. What started with a tweet went on to take the form of a cross-industry introspection.

More than a dozen influential men were brought into the light for their serial harassment towards their victims, and many of them faced subsequent, if not an immediate consequence.

Mega names like Nana Patekar, Sajid Khan, Anu Malik, Alok Nath, Varun Grover, and Rajat Kapoor to name a few, were splashed with accusations. The allegations stopped the work flowing their way in 2018, but a year later, almost all of them are employed and have gained their social circle back. Too much for a punishment?

But where are they now?

The #MeToo failed badly in India because the entire industry has been complicit in crimes against women.

While media names like Prashant Jha and Siddharth Bhatia paid the price, not the same can be said about the cowardice of Bollywood, who let all the actors in bad faith let the creeps make a comeback.

Actors like Sajid Khan and Nana Patekar were immediately embraced by their friends in Bollywood, while the women who came forward suffered a great price. They have been cornered and are constantly barraged with hate comments and trolling.

We can only hope for a better 2020 for our survivors. Here’s to hope.

Take care, friends. Toodles for now.
