I saw the ad for Asur on many channels. Usually, I am not interested in any other platforms than Netflix or Amazon Prime, but when I read the premise of Asur, I was drawn towards the show. From the very first scene, the show engulfs you in its grip. I believe that no other show has such a near-genius script with all the elements of drama and mystery narrated by the dark lore of Sanatan (Hindu) mythology.
The show creator Gaurav Shukla seems to have understood the crime thriller genre all too well. Asur seems to be a perfect inspiration from all the previous mysterious shows, yet it maintains its originality. The acting performances fall a little short in comparison to the gravity of the script. I can understand how difficult it would have been to get this project running, the producers did the best with the available resources.
Just when you think the show cannot get any more complicated, a new twist appears dissolving all the theories we cooked up in our minds. The logic and execution behind the murders are unprecedented, impressive, and gruesome. Barun Sobti gave a decent performance, he suited as the lead character Nikhil Nair.
India needed a show like Asur to rise to new heights of film making. I binge-watched the show and would recommend the same for everyone. If the first season was this awesome, I can only imagine how great would the second season be. The mystery is yet to be unfolded.
