5 Realistic Self-Help Books That Actually Help You Change For The Better

As a die-hard fiction reading snob, this doesn’t come easy to me, but there are certain books that you read and they transform your life like magic. Most self-help books are as awful as their horrendously designed covers imply. But in the saturated world of self-improvement, self-confidence, all the “selfs”, there are plenty of self-help books that will change the way you think, see, do, and act. These are a few of my favorites that helped me improvise my life for the good.

The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck

Forget a wishy-washy faux-positive author – Mark Manson is here to keep things to-the-point and isn’t scared to swear while he’s doing it. His approach differs from the usual self-help book style – instead of encouraging the readers to focus on what they’re not and ‘should be’, he advises them to stop comparing themselves and save their energy for the things that really matter in their lives.

Many of us struggle with boundaries in some aspects of our life. It could be we can’t say no to our kids, spouse, friends, boss, or even yourself. This book helps you understand that it is OK – and even good – to have boundaries in your life. So many struggle with being burnt out by the abundance of expectations and commitments that surround their everyday life.

Carol Dweck, the author of mindset, will open your eyes to new possibilities. Do you believe you were born with a certain talent or level of intelligence? Carol’s research shows that a shift in mindset from fixed to growth can open us up to a whole new world of opportunities. Do you recall when it was believed a human couldn’t run faster than a 4-minute mile? This was a fixed mindset. A lot of people hold this belief. But at least one person did not, and they were able to break through that 4-minute barrier. Once it was done, many runners were able to beat the 4-minute mile. Why? Because they now believed it was possible. They had changed to a growth mindset.

The Secret

“The Secret” is simply the “law of attraction.” Essentially, the law of attraction states that whatever consumes your thoughts is what you will eventually get in life. So, if you think of all the things you don’t want in your life, you’ll only get the things you don’t want. The book has huge popularity worldwide and after reading it myself I know why. It actually works when you follow it.
